Oman is a country on the Arabian Peninsula and compasses deserts, oasis in riverbeds as well as a very long coast alongside the Persian Gulf, the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman. Rimal-al-Wahiba is a region of sand dunes which is inhabited by bedouines. The capital Muscat has a nice harbour, the impressive modern Sultan-Qaboos-Mosque and the ancient quarter Matrah with its mazelike souqs and the busy fish market.
